Professional/academic experience

Dr. Yakaboski is a Professor of Leadership in Higher Education and Student Affairs and has worked at the University of Northern Colorado since 2011. Currently, she is the program coordinator for the HESAL master’s and doctoral programs. In 2017-2018, Dr. Yakaboski was granted a sabbatical to conduct research sponsored by the Finnish Institute for Educational Research at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. His primary research interests include the following areas: U.S. and Global Student Affairs and Services; interculturalism and social justice in student affairs; international and university students in higher education; and women and gender issues. More recently, she explores the integration of mindfulness and mediation in higher education and student affairs. Yakaboski has experience redesigning curricula and creating new courses that infuse technology, internationalization, social justice and inclusion into and throughout undergraduate, graduate and academic opportunities abroad. She was a student affairs administrator at the University of Arizona in Arizona Student Unions before joining the faculty in 2007. Much of her international research and service interests grew from his life experiences in India, teaching English as a second language in South Korea and developing studies abroad. trips to Kenya and Mexico. More recently, she published a book with Routledge titled, Internationalizing Your Student Affairs Practice: Global Tips for American Professionals. Dr. Yakaboski has published over 20 jury articles in U.S. and international higher education and student affairs venues including, Journal of International Education Studies, Journal of Student Affairs in Africa, Journal of Higher Education, and Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice. She has presented research across the United States and internationally in more than 50 presentations to date, including ACPA, NASPA, ASHE, and AERA conferences.
