SKCTC Appoints Nursing Program Coordinator and Academic Director

Current Nursing Program Coordinator Retiring

CUMBERLAND, Ky. (June 26, 2017) – Southeastern Kentucky Community and Technical College President Vic Adams announced that Joy Pennington has been named nursing program coordinator and Dr. Joel Michaelis will fill the position. director of studies (CAO).

Pennington replaces Kathy Guyn, who will retire at the end of June. Pennington begins July 1.

Pennington graduated in 2003 from the SKCTC nursing program. She holds a BSN as well as an MSN in Nursing Education from Chamberlin College of Nursing. She worked as a nurse for 14 years. Pennington has been a nursing educator at Southeast since 2009.

“I am humbled and honored to be able to continue to serve our students and our communities in my new position,” said Pennington. “I am very proud of the fact that I graduated from the South East. I look forward to working under our new administration and leading a program that is so integral to our institution.

Michaelis earned an Ed.D. in Educational Administration from Baylor University, a Masters in Educational Administration from the University of Texas, and a BBA in Management from Texas A&M University. He is currently Dean of Navarro College South Campus in Waco, Texas.

“I am thrilled to be part of the Southeast family and look forward to working with faculty and staff, as well as Dr. Adams and the administrative team,” said Michaelis. “Southeast is clearly an integral part of the communities it serves. I feel lucky to join a university culture that strives to meet the needs of the community and its citizens.

It starts July 16.
