College of Education Appoints New State-Wide Elementary Education Program Coordinator | New

August 30, 2011

Athena Kennedy

Athena Kennedy is the new coordinator of the Statewide Elementary Education Program (SEP) at Wyoming College of Education.

She will lead efforts in student service, program administration, marketing and promotion. A doctoral student at the College of Education, Kennedy has several years of experience in counseling and coordinating programs at Colorado State University, Arizona State University, and California State University-San Bernardino.

“UW and Wyoming community colleges share a commitment to preparing the best teachers for students in Wyoming schools,” said Reed Scull, associate dean of UW Outreach School. “SEP focuses on two critical needs – preparation of primary school teachers and access to education for site-related students.”

The SEP program requirements and expectations are exactly the same as the Laramie and Casper campus programs, but they are delivered with hybrid technologies and on a slightly different schedule to accommodate site-bound students.

“This provides flexibility for non-traditional students who may have family or work responsibilities in addition to their academic work,” Scull said. The need for students to travel to the UW Laramie campus for classes is eliminated.
