The MMC Experience in Bedford Hills
We offer a rich list of academic and extracurricular activities to enhance the college experience for BHCP students, including guest speakers and skill improvement workshops. Students also share their creative work in Read Arounds, writing workshops and poetry slams.
Since 2006, the MMC has held the Crossing Borders Academic Conference in the correctional facility every 1 to 2 years, during which faculty and students, from outside and inside, present their work on a wide variety of of subjects. The event attracts around 200 attendees and its importance to Bedford students cannot be overstated. The conference is a reminder that they are important and respected members of a larger learning community.
MMC also holds Inside / Out art exhibitions at the facility, showcasing artwork from BHCP, MMC and consortium students, and publishes The initiate newsletter, designed to serve the entire population of the institution, not just students. Current and past BHCP students make up the editorial board, write the articles and design the newsletter layout.
BHCP applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and pass placement exams in math, reading, and essay writing. Test scores help determine placement in preparatory courses with or without credit.
